The magic journey of FOMO

A bet placed in the worst possible market.

In the middle of the worst vacancy crisis the region had seen, we acquired 35,000 square metres of empty office space at Forus. John Fredriksen, the seller, described us like this at his annual dinner: "They must be pretty crazy, these investors in Stavanger."
We emptied every account and maxed out the credit line. There were more kroner in the transaction than there were brain cells in our heads. If this did not work out, the profit from a lifetime of hard work would go up in smoke, for every single one of us.
The year is 2019, and we knew little about the coming pandemic. Yes, we were perhaps a little crazy.

The Unstoppable force

Spring of 2020. The world goes into shutdown and the media sing in chorus: “The home office will replace office buildings.” The bank calls. Nerves are on edge. We have just taken out a ten million EURO loan and are busy painting things pink and hanging parrots from the ceiling.
At this point many would probably have given up, but we sent a letter to the bank: “The human need to gather has never changed. Not even the Black Death managed to wipe out our unstoppable search for community. Covid will be no exception.”
The entire historic letter, together with the strategy that laid the foundation for a 100% market share over the three following years, can be read here.

“We built FOMO because the most ambitious people in this region deserves a place that matches their drive and passion.”

Vision

FOMO's work has resulted in people from all over the world seeking out Rogaland to take part in new industrial adventures.

Values

Play to win. Powerful community. Wow! with substance.

Purpose

FOMO exists to give ambitious people and companies the framework they need to succeed on their journey.

The idea underneath the architecture

Your Workplace Shapes Who You Become.

Your surroundings are not neutral. They shape your energy, your network, and your ambitions.

Community Is Not A Bonus, It's Infrastructure.

The best ideas emerge when different perspectives meet. Big ideas at the same lunch table. That's not coincidence, that's design.

Rogaland Can Become The Region The World's Best Minds Choose

Because we're building arenas that make it worth choosing – and staying.

The founder’s vision

“Collaboration is a central part of people's everyday lives and their ability to survive. Yet ever since the industrial revolution, business has placed people in rows to perform individual tasks. The world's leading companies broke this pattern long ago, and applaud interaction, collective thinking and creativity over individualism, coercion and control.

It is no longer a question of if, but when the traditional way of organising an office is also completely outdated. We believe the time is now. That is why we will develop one of the world's largest coworking spaces and meet the human needs for inclusion and belonging.

FOMO will put the employee at the centre. Already now we see trends showing that employees increasingly determine the geographical location of companies. We will strive to make the working day simple, exciting and fun. We do not care about the status quo. We create 'spaces' where the young talent of today and tomorrow want to work.”

Sometimes one hour at FOMO can be more valuable than weeks in home office for me. Problem solving, meeting colleagues, partner, clients and constantly learning by listening to what just happened.

FOMO gives me everything a workday needs in one place: focus, flexibility, a gym, and a community that genuinely supports each other. I have found collaborators, ideas, and friends here that I never would have found behind a closed office door. It is a place built for people who want more out of their working day.

As Zaptec has expanded across Europe, FOMO Vassbotnen 1 has been a strong setting for that growth. The facilities gave us room to expand as we needed it, and it has been a good match for our organisation.

I don't know how they do it, but at FOMO everyone champions each other and the place itself, in a way I've never experienced anywhere else.
